Pasta Sauce Recipe (Our Family Recipe)

Meat (optional, but recommended)
- 1 pound Ground Italian Sausage sweet or mild
- 1/4 cup Carrots chopped. reduces bitterness . increases sweetness.
- 1/3 cup Yellow Onion chopped
Tomato Sauce
- 56 ounces San Marzano Whole Peeled Plum Tomatoes 2 cans. can also use crushed tomatoes.
- 2 tablespoons Olive Oil
- 4 cloves Garlic chopped and crushed. can substitute with 1 tablespoon of minced garlic.
- 1 tablespoon Dried Basil
- 1 teaspoon Dried Oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper fresh ground pepper recommended
- 1/2 tablespoon Sugar
Save until end
- 3 tablespoons Grated Parmesan Cheese romano can also be used.
- 3 tablespoons Fresh Basil
- 1 tablespoon Fresh Oregano
Instructions
Brown Meat
- Add meat, onions, and carrots to large frying pan.1 pound Ground Italian Sausage, 1/3 cup Yellow Onion, 1/4 cup Carrots
- Cook together until meat is browned mixing every minute.
- Break up the meat with a spatula into smaller pieces while cooking until there is no longer any pink.
- Remove from heat.
Tomato Sauce
- In large sauce pot, heat olive oil to medium.2 tablespoons Olive Oil
- Add garlic and cook for 1 minute stirring constantly.4 cloves Garlic
- The San Marzano Whole Peeled Plum Tomatoes will partially break down while simmering, leaving behind delicious tomato chunks. You can crush the tomatoes down after adding them to the pot to reduce chunks, or chop them in a food processor for no chunks at all.
- Add tomatoes, meat, and all other ingredients except fresh herbs and grated cheese.56 ounces San Marzano Whole Peeled Plum Tomatoes, 1 tablespoon Dried Basil, 1 teaspoon Dried Oregano, 1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper, 1/2 tablespoon Sugar
- Stir well, being sure to stir the garlic off of the bottom of pot into the sauce so it doesn't burn.
- Simmer on low covered for 2 1/2 hours with lid partially open stirring occasionally.
- Stir in cheese and simmer remaining 30 minutes.3 tablespoons Grated Parmesan Cheese
- Chop and stir in fresh herbs. Serve.3 tablespoons Fresh Basil, 1 tablespoon Fresh Oregano
